Here, all of the rules of traditional beachfront real estate development were broken. The process was driven by restoration and preservation, not destruction and removal. There are no cars, golf courses or manicured lawns and there will never be a stoplight or a strip mall. Instead you will find acres of flourishing live oak, pine and marsh, shores covered in oysters and crabs and lakes teeming with fish, alligators and birds. And one of the most pristine, private and preserved beaches in the country.  Only 150 properties on the entire island.

Island guests are expected to honor the principles of the island which will ensure that the pristine, natural beauty of Dewees Island will endure for generations. Dewees Island has no gas stations, restaurants or grocery stores, and residents get around by golf cart or on foot. A ferry based at the Dewees Marina on the Isle of Palms, runs back and forth from early morning to late night. The scenic journey lasts 20 minutes. Other island amenities include an environmental education center, a clubhouse, pool and two tennis courts, basketball, great fishing, crabbing, beach combing and the opportunity to unwind and relax.

Important information about renting on Dewees Island

Dewees Island Constitution - Dewees Islanders are committed to protecting and nurturing the ecosystem of the island by working together to build a culture of respect, stewardship, and sustainability so that future generations may experience the natural beauty of the Island.

Ferry Transportation - Travel to and from the island is aboard the 'Aggie Grey' which makes the round trip between Isle of Palms and Dewees Island every hour from early morning to late night.

On Island Transportation - Electric golf carts are the typical mode of transportation on the island. Gas powered automobiles are limited to emergency personal and special needs. Rental of this property includes one 4-passenger golf cart. Additional carts can be rented from the Dewees Island POA.

Trash & Recycling - On a barrier Island we have some unique situations. There is no trash pick-up, and we depend on all owners and guests to properly dispose of trash, recyclables and compost at designated sites.
